Cape Tappi
landmark
竜飛崎
Northernmost point of Honshu overlooks Tsugaru Strait, where on clear days Hokkaido appears across churning waters.
Northernmost point of Honshu, a windy headland in Aomori Prefecture where the Tsugaru Strait narrows to about 20 kilometers and the lights of Hokkaido are visible on clear nights. A white lighthouse marks the tip, and the walk out to it passes through low scrubland above the rocky coastline. Small fishing villages cling to the base of the cape, and restaurants in the area specialize in the tuna and sea urchin pulled from these cold waters. The cape is also the southern landing point of the Seikan Tunnel, the rail tunnel connecting Honshu to Hokkaido.
