Overview

Constructed in 1949, the Cape Osuzaki Lighthouse overlooks the fishing harbor of the small town of Osu on the Ogatsu Peninsula.

The Cape Osuzaki Lighthouse has stood 12 meters tall above the fishing harbor of Osu on the Ogatsu Peninsula since 1949. It survived the 2011 Great East Japan Earthquake and Tsunami undamaged, which deepened its meaning for local fishermen and residents. In 2018 it became the first lighthouse in Miyagi Prefecture designated under the Love Lighthouse Project, a national initiative preserving lighthouse heritage. A quiet garden surrounds it, and a heart-shaped marina sits below, making the spot popular with couples. On clear days the view extends across the islands of the surrounding sea, including the sacred island of Kinkasan.
