Cape Kogane
park
黄金崎
This dramatic and photogenic stretch of the Izu Peninsula draws hikers, photographers and romance-seeking couples.
The name means Golden Cape, and it earns it: at sunset the cliff face turns deep amber as the light hits the rock at a low angle over Suruga Bay. A well-maintained walking path follows the headland edge, and on clear days Mount Fuji appears across the water. The park has grassy areas for sitting, seasonal wildflowers, and a few sculptural installations scattered through the grounds. It combines easily with Dogashima's sea caves or the fishing village of Heda nearby. Reach it by car or bus from Toi Port, and plan to arrive around an hour before sunset for the best conditions.
