Cape Kamiwarizaki is one of the most renowned scenic spots in the Sanriku region.
Cape Kamiwarizaki on the Sanriku coast is best known for two massive pine-covered boulders split by a gap that frames the sunrise precisely from late October through mid-February, drawing photographers in the dark each morning for that specific alignment. Local legend says a deity split the rocks to settle a dispute between two neighboring villages, and the waves still roil through the gap before washing up on the white sand shore below. Clifftop trails thread through a quiet pine forest, where the contrast between the still trees and the turbulent sea below is striking. A nearby campground with cabins, tent sites, and barbecue facilities makes an overnight stay easy for those walking sections of the Michinoku Coastal Trail.
