Overview

Underwater observatory at Shikoku's southern tip, viewing Kuroshio Current tropical fish.

Near Shikoku's southernmost point, a walkway extends over the Pacific to an underwater chamber seven meters below the surface where portholes reveal tropical fish and coral carried north by the Kuroshio Current. The observatory sits within the Ashizuri-Uwakai National Park, adjacent to the famous cape's dramatic cliff formations. Above the waterline, the rocky coastline hosts subtropical vegetation found nowhere else on Shikoku.
