landmark
豊後大野石橋群
Over 70 stone arch bridges from the Edo era spanning moss-covered ravines, best explored by bicycle.
A collection of over 70 Edo- and Meiji-era stone arch bridges scattered across the rural Bungo-Ono countryside, the highest concentration in western Japan. Built by local stonemasons using volcanic rock from nearby quarries, the bridges span moss-covered ravines and quiet rivers. Todoroki Bridge, the largest at 20 meters high, arches over a waterfall. The area is best explored by bicycle along the designated bridge trail.
