Overview

The Bozuhara Pilot Tea Garden is a tea farm located along the Kyushu Olle Ureshino Course from which the plantation can be viewed against a picturesque mountain backdrop.

This tea farm along the Kyushu Olle Ureshino hiking course is one of the only spots on the route with a clear view of the Ariake Sea on a fine day. The name Bozuhara, meaning bald field, reflects the land's barren state before Ureshino city purchased it and converted it into a tea farm. The experiment came with unexpected challenges: wild boars from nearby hills repeatedly uprooted the plants in the early years, and today staffing shortages limit production to the first ichibancha harvest. Despite this, the tea from Bozuhara meets the same standard as other Ureshino teas, known for their mild flavor and characteristic sweetness.

Local tips

Morning visits catch the dew on the moss and the gardeners at work. The light through the trees is most beautiful before 10 AM.
