Overview

The Kanayama district of Gero is a popular destination for bouldering enthusiasts and rock climbers.

The Kanayama district in Gero draws rock climbers to three distinct outdoor areas and two indoor gyms. Kiba-iwa, or Fang Rock, has a distinctive boulder that curves upward to a point like a tusk. Asodani offers a forested mountain valley with large, nearly spherical boulders. Kado Kakurekigan, downstream from Hichiso Dam, has rugged but grippable surfaces formed by a volcanic eruption 65 million years ago. The Hida Kanayama Climbing Commission publishes detailed diagrams and difficulty rankings for each area, making it easy to find routes that match your level.
