Kitaoji Bamboo Garden

This Kyoto garden draws you in with dense stands of tall bamboo that filter the light into something soft and green. Walking the paths here feels genuinely different from the city's stone temples and gravel gardens. The rustling sound as wind moves through the stalks is part of the experience. It's particularly atmospheric in the early morning before crowds arrive, or in autumn when the surrounding maples add color at the edges.
