Azabu Juban Shopping Street
麻布十番商店街
Overview
An Edo-period merchant street where traditional sweet shops and artisan boutiques coexist with quiet café culture.
While Roppongi gleams a few blocks away, Azabu Juban has quietly maintained its local shopping street character for over 300 years. The pedestrian-friendly arcade hosts Naniwaya taiyaki (operating since 1909), traditional senbei crackers, handmade tenugui towels, and increasingly refined independent fashion labels. The annual summer Noryo Matsuri draws thousands but the everyday pace remains unhurried.
Local tips
Get the taiyaki at Naniwaya (the original, not the copycat across the street). The crispy thin-skinned version with red bean paste has barely changed in over a century.
