Awa Naramachi
restaurant
粟 ならまち店
Renowned for its 'Yamato' heirloom vegetables and Yamato beef served in a beautifully restored machiya.
Inside a restored machiya townhouse with timber beams and a small courtyard garden, Awa Naramachi serves multi-course meals built around Yamato vegetables, heirloom produce varieties cultivated in Nara for centuries but nearly lost to modern agriculture. Yamato beef and other local ingredients round out the menu, presented with a balance of traditional Japanese technique and contemporary plating. The intimate scale means the kitchen pays close attention to each table. Eating here is both a very good meal and a tangible connection to Nara's agricultural history, stretching back before the age of its famous temples.
