Overview
400-year tie-dyeing post town with working shibori workshops and Important Preservation status.
This former Tokaido post town in Nagoya's Midori ward has preserved 400 years of shibori tie-dyeing tradition, with artisans still hand-folding, binding, and dyeing indigo textiles in workshops open to visitors. Designated an Important Preservation District in 2016, the street retains lattice-fronted merchant homes with noren curtains displaying each family's signature shibori patterns.
