Overview
Public bathhouse featuring Arima's clear 'silver water' rich in carbon dioxide and radon.
Gin-no-yu is the counterpart to Arima's famous Kin-no-yu (Gold Water) bathhouse. While the gold water is reddish and thick with iron, the 'Ginsen' (Silver Water) at this facility is colorless and transparent. The water contains carbonic acid, which is believed to improve blood circulation, and trace amounts of radon, thought to boost the immune system. The facility's design is inspired by a peaceful Zen temple, with a quieter and more contemplative atmosphere than the often-crowded Kin-no-yu. It features a large indoor bath and a steam sauna. Like its sibling, it is centrally located in the Arima village and is a core part of the 'two-bath' experience for day-trippers. Tattoos are generally accepted here.
Local tips
Wash thoroughly at the shower stations before entering the bath. This is non-negotiable etiquette. Bring a small towel but keep it out of the water.
