荒立神社
Aratate Shrine venerates Ame no Uzume and Sarutahiko no Mikoto, deities who legend says married and settled on these grounds. The name refers to the story that they used rough timber to quickly build their home here. Ame no Uzume is the goddess whose dance coaxed the Sun Goddess out of hiding, and her association with entertainment has made this shrine a place of prayer for people in the performing arts. Visitors can strike the lucky seven virtue blocks hung throughout the grounds, hitting each board seven times with a mallet to bring good fortune. Priests are also available for private consultations.
Purify your hands at the temizuya before approaching the main hall. Left hand first, then right, then pour water into your left hand to rinse your mouth.
