Appi Kogen is the largest tourist development in the Hachimantai area, a year-round resort 30 km east of the plateau summit. Winter operations run 21 runs across 5 lifts, with the resort known for long groomed cruisers and a beginner-tier reputation. Summer brings two 18-hole golf courses, mountain biking on the lift-served downhill park, and the Beech Forest interpretive trail that links to the Iwate-side ryokan strip. The Appi station on the Hanawa line connects directly to JR Morioka in 50 minutes.
