Aomori Gyosai Center
market
青森魚菜センター
A local market famous for 'nokke-don', buy a ticket, walk from stall to stall, and build your own custom seafood rice bowl.
Municipal market where the 'nokke-don' system lets visitors purchase a strip of meal tickets, then walk through the market selecting toppings from different vendors to pile onto a bowl of rice. Tuna, salmon roe, sea urchin, squid, each topping costs one or two tickets. The market has operated since the 1960s and remains primarily patronized by locals doing their daily shopping, with the nokke-don being a side attraction rather than the main business.
Buy the 10-ticket set (1500 yen) and use two tickets each on five premium toppings. The sea urchin stall near the back entrance has the freshest uni, sourced from Oma at the northern tip of Honshu.
