Ankokuronji

Ankokuron-ji is a Nichiren Buddhist temple set into the Kamakura hillside where the sect's founder, Nichiren, is said to have written his influential treatise "Rissho Ankoku Ron" in 1260. The temple grounds connect to several hiking trails through the surrounding hills, offering a chance to walk paths that Buddhist monks have used for over 700 years. The trails wind through bamboo groves and past small caves, emerging at viewpoints over the town. At just 100 yen admission, it is one of Kamakura's most peaceful and least crowded temples.
