Ama Hut Hachimankamado

In the fishing village of Osatsu, retired ama free-divers grill their morning catch over charcoal inside a traditional hut while sharing stories of diving without tanks. Meals feature Ise lobster, abalone, turban shells, and plump scallops hauled from Matoya Bay. Osatsu is home to the largest active community of ama divers in Japan, preserving a 2,000-year-old tradition.
