Aizendo Hall

Aizendo Hall, built in 1635, is the oldest wooden structure in Taketa and the main hall of Ganjoin Temple, which relocated to the site after Oka Castle was demolished. The square building has a distinctive overhanging tent roof supported by interlocking wooden brackets, with demon-like jaki sculptures propping up the corners. Inside, seventeenth-century murals of celestial tennyo figures decorate the walls, and because of their fragile condition the hall opens only twice a year, in spring and autumn. The main deity, Aizen Myo-o, is associated with love and household harmony. Aizendo is designated an Important Cultural Property.
