Edo-period indigo merchant estate with dyeing workshops and original fermentation vats.
Housed in a preserved Edo-period indigo merchant's estate in Aizumi, this museum documents the Awa indigo trade that once made Tokushima one of Japan's wealthiest regions. Thirteen historic buildings showcase original dyeing vats and tools, with two structures registered as tangible cultural properties. Visitors can dip handkerchiefs or tote bags into centuries-old indigo vats for a hands-on workshop.
