Aharen Beach
阿波連ビーチ
Overview
Tokashiki Island's finest beach curves along turquoise Kerama waters, with coral reefs, sea turtles, and winter whales.
A 35-minute ferry from Naha reaches Tokashiki Island, where Aharen Beach curves between low hills and coral reefs that begin just meters from shore. The Kerama Blue water here is exceptionally clear, and the snorkeling is among the best in Okinawa, with sea turtles, tropical fish, and healthy coral formations close to the surface. From January through March, humpback whales migrate through the surrounding waters, and whale-watching tours depart from the beach area. Rental shops stock snorkeling gear, kayaks, and glass-bottom boats. A handful of simple beachside restaurants handle lunch. The island's small population keeps the whole place relaxed and unhurried.
