Aburahi Shrine
shrine
油日神社
At the foot of Mt. Aburahi in Koka, this shrine served as a gathering place for the region's samurai, who later became known as ninja, to meet and plan. The roofed corridor where those exchanges took place still stands, along with the main hall, hall of worship, and tower gate, all designated Important Cultural Properties. Records trace the shrine back to 877, though the current buildings date to 1493, funded by local samurai contributions. The deity here, Aburahi Daimyojin, is said to have descended from the heavens in a burst of light. Remove your shoes before entering any building.
Purify your hands at the temizuya before approaching the main hall. Left hand first, then right, then pour water into your left hand to rinse your mouth.
