Grill your own bamboo-leaf fish cakes over charcoal at this 1935 Sendai institution.
This Sendai institution since 1935 is the birthplace of hyotan-age, fish cake battered and fried on a stick in the shape of a gourd. At the flagship shop on Clis Road arcade, you can grill your own sassakamaboko (bamboo-leaf-shaped fish cake) over charcoal in a hands-on experience that takes about 20 minutes. The freshly grilled fish cake has a completely different texture from store-bought versions.
