Kanazawa 21st Century Museum of Contemporary Art

金沢21世紀美術館
Modern & large-scale displays of Japanese & international art in a circular, glass-walled building.
A striking circular glass building designed by SANAA architects that reimagines what a museum can be, with transparent walls blurring the boundaries between art, architecture, and the city of Kanazawa itself. The museum's most famous installation, Leandro Erlich's 'Swimming Pool,' creates the illusion of people walking underwater through a clever use of glass and shallow water. With no designated front entrance and free zones mixed with exhibition spaces, the museum encourages spontaneous encounters with art and fellow visitors.
The swimming pool installation by Leandro Erlich is free from above but 450 yen to enter below. Go below. It's the highlight.
