Misoka-an Kawamichiya
restaurant
晦庵 河道屋
Hot pots & soba noodles with a choice of accompaniments at a simple, long-standing lvenue.
One of Kyoto's most venerable soba restaurants, operating from a beautifully preserved machiya townhouse since the Edo period. The restaurant specializes in handmade buckwheat noodles served in traditional preparations including zaru soba with dipping sauce, warm noodle soups, and seasonal hot pot dishes. The building itself, with its dark timber beams, earthen walls, and intimate tatami rooms, transports diners to an older Kyoto that exists behind the tourist crowds. The simple, focused menu lets the quality of the noodles speak for itself, and the house-made soba has a clean, nutty flavor that reflects centuries of refinement. Located in the central Nakagyo district, it provides a restorative pause during a day of temple-hopping.
