Nijo Market
market
二条市場
Historic seafood market dating to 1903, offering the freshest catch and donburi rice bowls for true Hokkaido breakfast.
Nijo Market has been running since 1903, and its narrow blue-roofed arcade just five minutes from Sapporo TV Tower packs about 60 seafood stalls into a compact stretch. King crab, sea urchin, scallops, and salmon roe sit on ice while vendors call out to passers-by and offer samples. Several small restaurants inside serve kaisendon, seafood rice bowls, at prices that make for one of Sapporo's most satisfying breakfasts. Arrive between 7 and 9 AM for the liveliest atmosphere and freshest selection. Shops close mid-afternoon, and the market shuts entirely over New Year.
