Naminoue Beach
beach
波の上ビーチ
Naha's only city beach, tucked below a highway overpass with lifeguards, food stalls, and Naminoue Shrine above.
Naminoue Beach sits immediately below a highway overpass on the northwest edge of Naha, which gives it an urban quality unlike the resort beaches to the north. But the water is clean, the sand is maintained, lifeguards are on duty in summer, and it has showers, changing facilities, and a basketball court alongside the swimming area. It's the most central beach in Naha and the most accessible from the Kokusai-dori shopping area. Food stands and a beach house open in summer. For a quick swim or a walk along the water after a day in the city, it serves that purpose well. The sunset view toward the ocean, with the highway bridge overhead, has its own kind of character.
